"The Boys of Summer" Finds New Life!

In 2008, fresh off the successful premiere of "Truelove", I began writing a script that came to be known as "The Boys of Summer".  It took six months, but the result was a full-length feature film script about two guys on a road trip in search of redemption and a shred of meaning to their existence.

I love this script and my script readers loved it, too.  Problem is, I can't film it.  It's too big a project, too many days, too many locations, too many technical things (lots of shooting inside moving cars) that a shoestring operation like mine is simply unable to pull off and do the work justice.

So, with heavy heart, I put it on the shelf and moved on to other, more doable projects.

And thus, it is with great pleasure that I can report that "The Boys of Summer" will be made in 2012 (and maybe 2013).  No, I haven't suddenly come into piles of money and previously unknown talents.  "The Boys of Summer" will be produced as a full-cast audio play, complete with sound effects and music.  It will be a film without pictures.

This script is a perfect fit for this format because it is a "talky", not an action film.  There will be new challenges in adapting the script to this format, but I am a big fan of audio plays, so I will go to school on ways to introduce characters and locations without a narrator and without sounding obvious about it.  Challenges are what MPC Studios is all about, so this fits right in.  We've never made the same type of narrative film twice, so why not give this a shot?

The plan is to spend a couple of months adapting the script, casting the actors, researching the proper recording equipment and software, then start recording.  I intend to provide behind the scenes video updates along the way.  When it's all done, it will be released as a weekly mini-series, with 15-20 minute audio episodes that you can hear online or download to your iPod.

I am really excited by this idea, something totally new and fun and challenging, plus breathing life into a script that I think may be my very best.  I can't wait to begin sharing the work with my friends and the results with all of the fans who support our efforts.

p.s. If you're interested in taking part in this production, let me know.  I won't guarantee you will get a part, but I can guarantee you will get serious consideration.
